The castle of Tornano has been mentioned in medieval books, since the XI century. The nobleman Guarnellotto Mezzolombardi is told to be the first owner of the castle and became famous for his strong resistance to the emperor Frederick “Red Beard”.

Autostrada A1 (motorway A1): exit Valdarno . Follow the road signs to Montevarchi, then Gaiole. Take the State Road (Strada Statale) 408 . Get to and go past the village called Gaiole in Chianti, then proceed towards Siena after 5 km., at km n. 19, turn left to Tornano. Florence railway stations: 70 km, Siena: 20 km
